Monthly: Samantha's May Favorites

Is it just me or does time seem to fly by crazily fast!? I can't even believe it's the end of May!!! The last thing I remember was rushing to post my April Favorites and now this! Insane!

Anyhow.. Ash and I will be posting our Top 5 picks of the Month as usual. It's really hard, considering how many things Ash and I buy a month *guilty faces*, but we try our darnest to narrow everything down, so.. enjoy! :)

1) YSL Touche Eclat (Shade 4.5)

Well I finally purchased my YSL Touche Eclat in the right shade! Too happy :) It was on my lust list for awhile (okay only since February.. fine) and I was ecstatic when I got my pay and could treat myself to this!

You've all heard the ravings of the Touche Eclat and it's legendary highlighting powers and this one does just that. When used with my concealer in shade 3, the coverage is way better. It highlights my area whilst looking very natural. I like how I can use this on top of the YSL stick concealer and nothing flakes or balls up whilst I'm blending them together. The finish is just incredibly smooth and lightweight.

Price: SGD $55

Stockists: DFS, TANGS, and Ion Singapore

2) Lavera Apple Conditioner

I do not think you can purchase this conditioner in Singapore.. and even if you could, you'd only get it at very few places. I myself got it from my facial therapist who imports organic products from Germany, and gave it to me to try it out.

I L.O.V.E. IT. If you remember, I hate conditioning my hair, as I've mentioned in one of my previous posts.. I am such a lazy bum and conditioning just irritates me lol! This conditioner, however, changes my entire perception. It isn't oily at all, as most are, at the first touch. It feels very creamy and sinks into the hair with amazing ease! There is no sticky residue at the end whilst washing it out either. It's just smooth and clean; it feels like the conditioner has been totally absorbed and not just simply sitting on the hair strands.

Do call Amy if you're interested in purchasing, so that she may check her stock. They normally sell out very quickly!

Price: Please call to confirm

Stockists: Der Anthyllis - Amy (Phone No: 9797 8559)

3) Bioderma Sensibio Cleanser

Ashley has written a review on the Bioderma Crealine Cleanser here, and many readers have asked us how it compares to the Sensibio version we have in Singapore.

The truth is, the two are incredibly similar. They're both created for sensitive skin types and appear to work the exact same way. The largest difference is that they seem to be sold in different countries. Otherwise, I think you're getting the same bang for your buck.

It feels like water, which is great because I absolutely have to stay away from oil-based makeup removers - they just break me out and dry my skin. I've tried drugstore brands from Biore to high-end like Shu Uemura, and let's just say I'll stand by this makeup remover till my dying breath. It removes all my makeup effortlessly and feels gentle and hydrating. The biggest con to me is having to buy cotton pads to actually use this product.. it's like buying one thing to end up buying another.. you know what I mean?

That aside, this is still my Holy Grail of Makeup Removers.

Price: SGD $12.90 for (100ml) / SGD $29.90 for (250ml)

Stockists: Guardian

4) FaceShop Face It Eyeliner (01)

If you've already read my FOTD: Drugstore Makeup Post, you'd understand why this is one of my favorite eyeliners. I know some people rave about Clio or Maybelline or Bobbi Brown but nope. This is it for me.

I've been using this for years, YEARS, until my cousin gifted me with the Laniege Waterplay Eyeliner (review here). I was in love with that too, but it was a little too expensive to upkeep - so I went back to my trusty old Face Shop Face It Eyeliner. This eyeliner only sets me back about SGD$13 and that's way okay in my books. I love the color, the intensity, and the easiness of usage!

P/S: I probably won't recommend this to beginners because liquid eyeliners can be tricky! This is better suited to those who have been wearing eyeliner for awhile and are familiar with how they'd like their eyeliners drawn on.

Price: SGD $12.95

Stockists: The Face Shop

5) 3M Nexcare Acne Patch

I've been using these Acne Patches since I was.. 19? They are so effective at what they do, and my love for these patches have renewed this month.

As all of you probably already know, I've been battling chin acne since the start of this year. I think it might be due to some hormonal imbalance. I'm honestly kind of depressed.. so right! Sorry to digress!

I use these when I've got those huge pus-filled pimples, or pimples that have recently popped and left a gaping (bleeding urgh) hole. It's very simple to use, just peel the patch off and paste it over the affected areas! That's all! The next day or a few hours later, you'll notice the patch has turned whitish, which means the gunk has been sucked up! :) If the pimple is still kind of watery/bleeding, you can use a new patch. I normally use these patches till the area has dried up so that applying medication over the spots is safer.

It has increased the healing time for my acne and also helped prevent further bacterial exposure! Best thing ever really.

Price: SGD $5.40 for a small pack/ SGD $8.40 for a large pack

Stockists: Guardian, Watsons, Ocean (Chinatown)

We've come to the end of my March Favorites and I hope you've enjoyed it! Feel free to ask me any questions that come to mind, and I will try my best to answer all of them!

Looking forward to June!

Review: Jurlique Rose Silk finishing Powder

I don't know about you, but! come summertime or whenever the weather starts to get extremely hot and sticky, my skin starts to get a little oily in my T-zone. This factor alone irritates me quite a bit because I then feel like my make up doesn't look as good and throws me off leaving the house for whatever I have on during the day. Do you feel this too ? I might just have the solution for you ;)

As it is summer time, I've been keeping my makeup routine to the bare minimum - Mascara, Tinted moisturizer with SPF , lip gloss and a Finishing powder. The Jurlique Finishing powder helps keep my skin matte for the whole day ( depending on how humid the day is) and I had to share it with you all :)

Jurlique is known to carry a range of natural Beauty, Skincare & Bath products to achieve glowy and healthy skin the natural way. A silky translucent facial powder for normal skin that refines the complexion and helps reduce unwanted shine. Leaves skin fresh and radiant.

Corn & Rice Starch act as natural substitutes for Talc, while Silican imparts a smooth texture onto your skin. Glycerin helps to moisturize and prevent moisturize loss at the same time. Arnica is also present to help soothe and cool the skin.

more information here:

A very light packaging which makes it perfect for travelling. The product comes with a mirror, a powder puff and has a sift to ensure that not a lot of product comes out whilst hanging about in your makeup bag. I used to use the powder puff, which works really well whilst out and about but I've just been using my Real Techniques large powder brush to apply it while I'm getting ready.

Texture/ Finish

Relatively fine powder, doesn't leave skin looking chalky whatsoever. It has a light Rosey scent to it which makes it all the more fresh upon application. It's a lightweight powder so it doesn't feel like you've got anything on at all. It doesn't completely mattify your face but controls the oil from shining through, making it look extremely natural.

As mentioned, I enjoy using my Real techniques Large powder brush - It evenly distributes the product all over my face and blends everything together. I focused the application of my product to my T-zone as that is where it typically appears shiny and dust the remaining on to my cheeks and on my chin.

Overall Thoughts

I'm so glad I brought this powder with me to Hong Kong, it really helps in a way " keep my cool" whilst getting ready on a hot summer day. I've never quite found oil blotting sheets effective to control the oil in my T-zone, I find that that only lasts awhile before the oil/ shine comes back again. The only downside I'd say is with the packaging, I kinda hoped that the sift would come with a twist mechanism to open and close so that the product can be safely kept within.

Its also perfect for setting any concealer / Foundation / tinted moisturizer you have on, I feel that everything stays in place whilst using the powder to set my makeup.

Recommended for
  • people with normal - oily / combination skin ( * it will not completely mattify your look but will control the oil to look like a natural glow)
  • If you dont mind the fresh rose scent that comes with it  (it only lasts a couple of seconds.)
Would I repurchase

Its quite likely that I will repurchase this because of the scent and its natural finish. Its really light weight as well so it literally feels like I've got nothing on my face!

FOTD: Drugstore Makeup

Hi there pretties,

how have you been? Ash and I have been swamped with stuff, and I recently got a new job which seems pretty time consuming, so we'll try to keep up with our posts. If we seem to be slowing down, do be patient with us, we try our best! :)

Anyway I've been getting comments from friends and family that some of the products we use seem a little too high end and do not cater to the general public who might not want to spend that much on cosmetics. So I've decided to do a post on my Face Of the Day with some of my favorite drugstore products. I did not review some of them because they've been on the market for quite awhile before this blog started, but if you'd like me to I will.

Let's Start!

Foundation/BB Cream:

You can find my review on this here. I like this because it is extremely lightweight and does not make me feel like I am wearing much or any makeup at all. Normally, I squeeze out about 2-3cm worth of product onto the end of my fingertips, and quickly spread it out all over my face.

I use only one layer, though the effect is buildable, because I do not like a heavily made up face. It's enough to even my skin tone out, cover some small pores, and make my face look glowing and healthy.

I use a mixture of ZA and Maybelline concealers because of their colors. Maybelline's is very warm and ZA's is too cool; the result is just nice for my undereyes and provides better coverage. Both are liquid concealers, so they're not as heavy duty. If you notice, you can still see some of my dark rings peeking through.

This isn't much of an issue for me because majority of the problem is covered up. The two formulas are very smooth and go on without any issue. It is so easy to blend them in and achieve a nice finish.

For my blusher, I'm using Maybelline's Dream Mousse in Rose Petal. This was given to me by Ashley because she's a fan of matte products and this is quite shimmery. I might even go to the extent where it is slightly glittery. I like it because I enjoy the highlighting aspect, plus the color isn't too strong. There is a flush to the cheeks without going over the top.

Lipbalm/Lip Stain:

I LOVE this lip balm/lip stain. I find it way better than Revlon's Ultimate Suede, though I know people are raving about the latter. It is 100x more hydrating, has stronger staying power, and even lasts after I eat! Also, it doesn't feather to the sides as much, and doesn't leave a weird empty circle around the middle. Then again, to each their own.

I also like this color a lot! It's in the middle of red and pink, and it really adds a pop of color and liveliness to the whole look. I have pale lips, so I normally prefer having a more vibrant lip. :)

(I know The Face Shop isn't a drugstore brand but at $12.95 it's even cheaper than Maybelline or L'Oreal! So by price range I label it under drugstore brand, and that's that.)

Anyhow.. Is it weird if I call this eyeliner the bomb-diggity? Hahaha, I know it's so cliche. I've been using this eyeliner for about 1-2 years if memory serves me right. I normally use liquid eyeliners because I think they smudge less and have a darker color.

This one in particular does not smudge at all on me; and mind you, I have extremely oily lids. What it does, however, is flake (very very occasionally) so you can easily peel the part off and reapply the eyeliner. I suppose some people may find that a hassle but believe me, I'd rather that than walk around looking like a panda the rest of the day.

The color goes on so deep even at first application so I do not find myself having to put on layers and layers. I just draw to the areas I need to apply it to, let it dry, and I'm done. I do not even need to set it with a loose powder of any sort.

Overall Thoughts:
There you have it! My final look! This is what I'd do for days I'm rushing out of the house and need to go to work/meet friends! I think it's fairly simple and casual, I do not use eyeshadows or extra highlighting/contouring. I slap this on and I go. It takes me about 10-15 minutes max (I do not draw my brows because I go for eyebrow embroidery) and I think it makes me look awake and fresh. If you didn't already notice, my makeup is really pretty basic most of the time. I do not enjoy experimenting much in the contouring/eyeshadow department because I really sometimes much prefer going out with as little makeup as possible on. For normal days, I even skip the Maybelline BB Watergel and just use sunblock instead.PS - I've gone brunette! Can you tell? Hahah I know the color isn't showing up much in pictures, but I think it'd be a little more obvious with a few more washes. ;)I hope you guys have enjoyed this post! I will definitely be doing more of it in the future, especially on days where I get a little more dressy! :)

Have a good week!
Much love,

The 10 benefits of Green Tea

Hi lovelies!

Not only do skin care products play an important role in contributing to the outlook of our complexion but! what you feed your body is important too. I believe I've mentioned this once or twice in my previous posts, " What your skin is a reflection of your body's internal condition".

There are numerous ways you can switch up your eating habits, I for one, have cut off soda from my diet for quite awhile now. Eating more fruits is also a great option, but today I'm going to share with you the benefits of drinking Green Tea.

Green Tea is known for having numerous health benefits but do we know what they really are?

Image taken from :

Green Tea contains Catechin polyphenols and Epigallocatechin (EGCG) which is a very powerful antioxidant. It's also known to lower cholesterol and inhibit abnormal formation of blood clots which in turn prevent health problems such as heart attacks and strokes. The Catechin in particular, can also help kill bacteria when one is down with food poisoning. It's also known to help cleanse your system as well.

Health Benefits
  1. Boosts metabolism
  2. Contains a type of antioxidant which aids in burning fat
  3. It's said to be 100 times more effective than Vitamin C
  4. Lowers Cholesterol
  5. Helps speed up the recovery of cells
  6. Promotes longevity and anti-aging, keeping skin looking youthful
  7. Represses angiotensin which causes high blood pressure
  8. Boots immune system
  9. Prevents the risk of having cancer
  10. Helps relieve stress and anxiety

My Experience

I hopped on the green tea bandwagon about 8 months a go and do feel that It's benefited me quite a number of ways. For one, it has taught me to appreciate having tea without any sugar at all. I used to add sugar to almost any tea / coffee that comes my way and too much sugar isn't good especially because I'm trying to keep a relatively healthy diet.

In a way Green tea helps calm my nerves down whenever I start to feel anxious because I do have a slight bit of anxiety problems where it can get to point where I can forget to breathe whilst I'm panicking about a situation. This typically results in feel really light headed and having a cup of green tea when I'm stressed always calms me down quite a bit.

It has also helped me get into the mindset of aspiring to lead a healthier lifestyle. I absolutely love green tea and I have a cup every morning over at breakfast and one in the afternoon.

*If you guys want to start your journey on healthy eating, I'd say the first step is to kick the habit of drinking Soda and try drinking green tea. Don't completely cut yourself off immediately but take it one step at a time so that it doesn't come as a shock to your system.

My favourite types of Green Tea

There are two types of green tea that I typically lean towards, there's the powder form which I purchase from Genki Sushi or the regular tea bag kind that I get from yogi, Twinings, Celestial or those Japanese one's you find at the supermarkets.

Stockist: Yogi Tea selected supermarkets , ( 360 at elements, city super, certain park n shops ) HK$50

So that's just some of the benefits of green tea, if you guys would like a deeper look into the benefits and the specific terms and properties , feel free to click the sites I've referenced above! I hope this has helped you in one way or another and now when people question your love for green tea, you've got 10 facts to list out for them!

Let us know if you enjoy reading these kinds of posts and we will be sure to put up more from time to time!

Here's to being Healthy!

Instagram Update: @ashleytx16

Hi lovelies!

Instead of our usual beauty posts, I'd thought I'd do a quick instagram update for you all :) These photographs are taken with my personal account and I've not been on instagram a whole lot lately because I've been out and about and only remember to take the photographs after the days all over -.-, smart eh?
On to the events ...

1// I had Cold vermicelli at a Vietnamese Restaurant for lunch with my brother, that was definitely amazing and I've missed having it whilst having been away in Singapore.

2// My friend Chantal & I who I feel like I haven't seen in AGES! It was great catching up with her and again we only remembered to take the photograph together towards the end of the day before we both headed home.

3// Tea at TWG! I've got this odd fascination with adding milk into hot tea, so I'm pretty sure the two photographs you see wont be my only few in the weeks to come. Being at TWG always reminds me of Sam & I's girly tea sessions after a day of shopping or a hard day at school haha, so It did feel slightly different without her there this time...

4// A throwback for mothers day :) She's the strongest woman I know, and I'm so thankful to have been brought up the way I have and I wouldn't be anywhere today without her :) Love you mum!

5 // Breakfast with my dad one morning and again with my fascination for milk/ tea

6// At Sift Cupcakes with one of my best friend! We ordered the chocolate and the red velvet which would have went well with a hot cup of tea :)

7 // Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate bites, holy crap - these are the - If anyone is going to the states... please let me know, I'd love to get some more ! These are probably the only kind of dark chocolate I'll eat, I'm more of a milk chocolate person.

8 // Me and Zoe aka, fashiononymous - She's the sweetest girl ever and I'm so glad to have met her!

9// Nouveau Fashion Show ( click here for the post about it)

feel free to follow my personal instagram @ashleytx16 and our blog instagram @samanthashley_

Anywho, thats my quick update for now! Thankfully more of my friends here in Hong Kong are on their summer break so there will be a lot more photographs popping up on my instagram in the weeks to come :)  I hope you all are having a lovely Friday. I will be posting a beauty post soon and will be filming a favourites video to sum up my favourites for the month of may, so stay tuned ;)

Here's to a great weekend!

Review: Benefits They're Real Mascara

What's up lovelies :),

I know I've put put off this particular review for quite sometime as I needed to decided whether it lived up to the hype in the beauty community and after so long I believe I've come to a decision. I first purchased this product at the benefit workshop a month ago I believe? and have used it a couple times a week to get an idea of its lasting power, texture and the overall feel.

I was initially sold to the idea because of the hype that its gotten over the beauty community and little did I know that I'd not love it as much as I thought I would.

"This breakthrough bestseller reveals lashes you never knew you had! The specially designed brush features staggered bristles that grab close to the root, boosting length and volume beyond belief. The custom-domed tip uses precision bristles to lift, define, and curl even your tiniest lashes. With a glossy, jet-black, long-wearing formula, you’ll flaunt luxurious, silky lashes that won’t smudge, clump, or dry out. "

The lady at the workshop also mentioned that with this particular mascara, it doesn't require a lash curler as a pre-step as the mascara will naturally curl your lashes for you. Also! keep in mind that what a girl looks for in a mascara varies - as for me, I'm looking for one that volumizes and keeps things looking very natural.

I love the somewhat reflective and sleek packaging it comes in. I had no problems getting the product out as I have had situations where I had to pump the mascara wand before getting some product out. The bristles are plastic and as you can see have a variation between the length of the bristles to reach all your lashes.  The tip is rounded to get the outer lashes BUT! I do find that a lot of product likes to stick to the very tip and hence wiping a bit of the product off might do you good, if you'd like to use that end.

It has a relatively thick and heavy texture, which I'm not a fan of. I prefer something a little less wet so that I don't have to worry about blinking right after application in fear that it might smudge.

Relatively standard application method as regular mascaras, I couldn't go over with a second coat however because the first coat took too long to dry off.

Before and After

As you can see, it does lengthen my lashes quite a bit and in a way opens up my eyes. I find that the there;s about a 1- 2 min dry time for the mascara to completely dry and whilst blinking I did managed to smear the bits onto my undereye area.

Overall thoughts

Apologies, my skin isn't at its best at the moment. To keep things relatively straight to the point, I'm going to do up the pros and cons about this product.

- It opens up my eyes
- Lengthens my lashes to some extent

- Thick & Wet formula
- Very long dry time for a mascara in my experience
- The wet formula limits the use of my wand at a time because I'm always worried I'll smear another area.

So as you can gather, I'm not a big fan of the mascara, its probably a borderline mascara and isn't worth the price. I feel that my Covergirl lash blast fusion mascara still comes out on top. For all you lovelies out there who are on the look out for a good mascara, my best bet is probably at the drugstore ( with personal experience).

Recommended for : N/A

I'm not too sure that I can recommend this after my experience with the product :( sorry benefit!

Would I repurchase?

Nope - I've had a couple of amazing experiences with benefits products but am sad to say that this isn't one of them. It wasn't particularly cheap either and I feel that there are a couple of mascara's at the drugstore that you can definitely pick up to use that has a better outcome.

Benefit / Sephora / TANGS SG$37

Overall rating: 4 / 10

Let me know your experience -  should you have given this product a go!
Much love,

Review: NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

Hi everyone!
What the heck!? Another concealer!? I know, I know..

I have resigned myself to the fact that I am the kind who needs to blend/layer my concealers to get the coverage I need.. so just a heads up - this is one of those 'layers'. HOWEVER, something tells me I might've gotten the wrong shade, because I've seen some bloggers who actually use this to cover their dark circles completely with just one shade!

Oh well.. anyway let's continue.

Background Information

Coveted by artists for its luxurious texture and luminous finish, new Radiant Creamy Concealer evens skin with lightweight medium to high buildable coverage. Enriched with hydrating, multi-action skincare benefits and light diffusing technology, it creates a softer, smoother complexion while instantly obscuring imperfections and diminishing fine lines and signs of fatigue.
  • Long wearing and crease-proof.
  • Paraben-free, Alcohol free, Synthetic fragrance free, Non comedogenic.

*information taken from NARS official website*

I love the packaging. It is so sleek and classy - very minimalistic. Just a black screw-on top (material is slightly rubberish/plasticky similar to the blusher packaging) with a slim and long plastic base. It looks a little bit like a lip gloss, and has a doe-foot applicator as well.

Nothing too complicated about the design really, just twist off the wand and dab it on!

Texture and Color

Yes, I mentioned earlier that I got my color wrong.. maybe I should've done more research before purchasing. It was just all done on impulse and I was so excited so I didn't actually try all the shades out and just got whatever the SA (Sales Assistant) told me to get.

I got mine in Honey, which is very orangey. (If you notice, in the photo above, it's actually darker and more orangey than my hand.) The reason for this is because I was obsessed with the Giorgio Armani Corrector Shade 2 which I never got, and I thought this would be a good replacement. Which is what it turned out to be, fortunately! :) The orange-ness actually covers up dark rings better and works as a corrector/base to even out your dark rings before you put your concealer on. So no worries, it looks orange in the photo but works out perfectly well under the eye.

The texture is impeccable. It really really is creamy and soft, which makes it beautiful to blend. It is easy to layer with minimal creasing and dries fast! Which is definitely a plus for those of us who need to rush out of the house! Moreover, this is up to personal preference, it doesn't require a loose powder on top (if you're just using one shade alone) because it's not dewy like most creamy concealers can be, so just apply it and you're done! If you feel safer with a loose powder on top, then just go ahead and put it anyway. :)

Methods of Application

I do not use this alone, as mentioned. I have played with it a bit deciding whether to wear it alone or below or on top, and I will show you the different effects. Just so you know, I do use a Beauty Blender for easier and smoother application!

As recommended, I dot 3 dots below my eyes and then I blend it all in.

• When used alone, it looks too dark on me.. Yes it covers to a certain extent but not completely.

• When used below another concealer , the coverage is definitely tons better but the additional concealer on top can be thicker or sticky which can lead to creasing. It wil also almost definitely require a loose powder.

• When used on top, I find that it covers my dark areas better and also allows me to leave my house without waiting for my concealer to set - it dries without creasing and looks natural as well!
(I do apologize for the difference in lighting, I did try to balance it out on photoshop to make all more equal but this was the best I could get. In honesty, The results for the concealer on top and as a base is pretty similar - the only difference is that I do not need a loose powder when I use the concealer on top.)

    Overall Thoughts

So here I am wearing the concealer! I love it, I look so awake! :)

I am so sad I got the wrong color, and honestly I'm done with buying concealers for now. My makeup cabinet is LITERALLY bursting with them! I have like 10 concealers, 1 foundation, 2 blushers, and 5 lipsticks. Haha, I am a concealer junkie. If I did get the right color which would solve my problems, I think I'd be in love. I'd even give this a 9.5/10.. but oh well.

I love the consistency and I love the look. It softens my eye area up, makes me look awake, and even creases less than the FakeUp Concealer by Benefit (I know right?). I think it's a worthy investment on the whole. You can even use it on pimples and scars because the it blends very well and can be layered without any issue!

    Recommended For

Anyone, really. If you want to invest in a good concealer, this is for you.

    Would I Repurchase

Yes, definitely. I have worn concealer since I was 15, and this is the only one which has made me feel safe enough to use without putting loose powder or anything else on top. Looks so natural and feels weightless.

Also, Makeup Alley has rated this a whopping 4.3 stars out of 5, and in my books that's all the reason to get it.

    Overall Rating: 8.5 / 10

    I'm accidentally in love!

Review: Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser

    Hi pretty ladies ;)

We've gotten an overwhelming response for our review on the Maybelline Pure Mineral BB Aqua gel , which you can read here, so we'd thought we'd do another Maybelline review with the Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser!

I've gone through several types of primers and the two important things I look out for within a primer would be to minimize the appearance of my pores and to create a smooth canvas so that my makeup doesn't fall into the creases / settle into fine lines.

This product can be used both alone or under your makeup! It claims to "create a smooth canvas so that your makeup is able to glide on seamlessly - Skin also stains shine free and even all day" If used alone, the product helps " blur lines, pores and creases".

The translucent silicone gel reminds me of the smash box photoready primer / elite primers. It goes on really smooth and blends out really easily.  I prefer this -consistency as opposed to the benefit Porefessional primer as it slides on a lot easier without having to flake off. Its not sticky at all and has absolutely no fragrance.

I apply the product with either a foundation brush or my finger tips  mainly to my T-zone and my cheeks after I've finished applying my bb cream / tinted moisturizer and concealer to get a flawless finish. I do love the product as a finishing gel , it keeps my skin looking matte for most of the day. The blurring of the pores looks really natural and there are no visible streaks of the product after blending in.

    Before & After

As you can see, the pores have been minimized quite a bit and my skin is still kept looking very natural.

    Overall Thoughts

Personally, I find that this product doesn't show too much of its effects if used under makeup, but does provide a smooth canvas nonetheless. The best way to use this product is through using it on top of makeup, it really creates a flawless finish to your makeup and in a way can act like a dupe for the Laura Mercier Secret Finish.

I do prefer this over my benefit porefessional - the results are more obvious and slightly more long lasting.  I do have to take this out in my bag sometimes depending on the weather for the day and for touching up if there's a dinner / important errand to run for the day.

Should you have extremely oily skin, I'm not too sure that this product will last long, you would probably have to reapply during the day as I find that my T zone starts to get a little shiny mid day due to the weather despite having Normal- combination skin. So I do wish that the product would have had more lasting power in terms of controlling the oil.

    Would I repurchase?
Yes! for the price, this product is such a steal ;) A perfect product to keep in my bag to touch up whilst being on the go.

Review: Benefit Eye Cream 'It's Potent!"

Today I'll be reviewing Benefit's Eye Cream called "It's Potent!". I bought this when I finally ran out of my YSL Youth Liberation eye cream and wanted to try something else. Since I used this at Benefit's Workshop and thought it quite alright, I decided to purchase it and see how it really fares.

    Background Information

Your eyes can't keep a secret...they're the first to show signs of age and stress. It's potent! eye cream fades dark circles and helps smooth fine lines for brighter, younger-looking eyes. Contains a peptide complex known to help restore elasticity and firmness, a blend of hydrating botanical extracts including apple extract, known to help boost collagen, and loquat extract, known to help protect the skin from free radical damage.

Once again, it is needless to say how cute Benefit's packaging is. I love the cork patterned design on the lid against the cool green blue of the glass bottle. It's a beautiful contrast and looks so rustic yet sophisticated at the same time. Very simple to use as well - just twist open the cap and tadaaa! That's it.

However.. I suppose some people might not like some things about it such as: the bottom being breakable and difficult to bring whilst travelling, and that it does not have a spatula so dipping your finger in to get the product out can be kind of unsanitary. These things don't really bother me but I suppose they can be an issue for others.

    Color and Texture

When you first open the bottle and take a look inside, the product looks thick and gooey and everything bad. It looks like a quick and fast road to milia seeds too. But this is where they say you should not read a book a by it's cover, nor judge an eye cream without actually feeling its texture.

When actually scooped out and applied, the cream melts like butter and absorbs so quickly into the skin you wouldn't even have noticed it was there just a minute ago. There is no shine nor residual stickiness as well. It's very lush and feels lovely.
As you can see from the picture, it has disappeared into the top of my hand with ease. This just took some light patting and after awhile, I'm left with soft and hydrated skin.

    Method of Application

Well it's very straightforward I feel. Just twist open the cap, dip your fourth finger in, take some product out and pat it under your eye down to the top of your cheekbones, and upwards to your temple and upper eyelid. It's like drawing one huge circle around your eye.

I know most people just put it under their eye and stop there, but eye creams are for all-round eye area protection so why limit yourself?

    Overall Thoughts

This is where I got a little disappointed. I love the texture of this product and just how quickly it settled in without me having to wait before applying my concealer or eye primer of the sort; but as you can see.. there is little to no difference. And the "After" picture was actually taken one week after the "Before" one.

I've learnt not to expect too much from this eye cream results wise honestly, but the texture remains one of the best I've ever used. It's really a on-the-fence situation.. I suppose if you have very very young under eye skin with almost no dark rings, then this could be one of your "prevention" creams because this does not appear to be a cure to anything.

    Recommended for

Younger skin, probably for people hitting their 20's to mid 20's. As mentioned, I think it best to actually start using eye cream when you're 18, but I suppose you could work your way up from drugstore brands first and start on Benefit later on.

    Would I Repurchase

Sadly... Most likely it's a no. Whilst I have long given up on my dark rings and the situation of my eyes in general, I would still like to know that a product (at the very least) holds up some end of the bargain. Though this one feels lovely and sinks in wonderfully to my eye area, I do not feel that the price is too justified.
