Event / Giveaway (closed) : Benefit Cosmetics x Samantha Ashley

Hi lovelies,

About a month ago, thanks to Benefit Cosmetics Singapore, I got to meet the amazing Jared Bailey who is Benefit Cosmetics International Spokesperson for Global Services, AKA their Global Brow expert and we teamed up to virtually bring your the experience what it's like getting your brows done at the Benefit Brow Bar!

I never touched my brows or thought I needed up up till 2 years ago and ever since, its made all the more the difference. It just gives your face a very polished look and now, I go back about every 3 /4 weeks to get my brows done.

I know I know, this is the part you're looking out for ;) There is a GIVEAWAY over on our youtube channel when you stand a chance to win SG$280 worth of Benefit goodies along with some of their signature brow products and their new franchise They're Real which includes their mascara, eyeliner and makeup remover! Contest ends 29th of June so hurry!!

Thank you so much to everyone that entered! The giveaway is now closed and we have selected a winner! We will have more giveaways in the future so stay tuned for that <3 nbsp="" p="">
Aside from getting to witness the Benefit Brow experience from the comfort of your home in this post you'll also be getting to see glimpses of the Benefit dinner where we got to know Jared a little better with a couple of other amazing bloggers!

About

This is the typical Brow Bar set up you'll see at almost any Benefit Cosmetic counters or Stores. You'll see everything from their special wax to muzzling cloths which they use as the base to wax off the hairs.

Fact* Benefit uses muzzling cloths because they find that the material texture allows the wax to grip the hairs better and to provide a clean finish that aids to the wince free technique that Benefit is oh-so-famous for!

Brow Mapping

Of course, there are several steps but the most important step and one that is unique to the brow services at Benefit would be brow mapping! This process can obviously be used to fill in your brows but ! is a crucial step before waxing because it allows you to see what your "new" brows will look like before the brow experts get about to making you look amazing ;)

Here's a little blurb that describes the process with much detail.

1. First we take a pencil and line it up with the inner corner of your nose and the inner corner of your eye. Then, we make a mark there using brow zings or any other brow pencil. This tells you where your eyebrow should start.

2. Next, we hold the pencil horizontally from the outside corner of your nose through the outer corner of your pupil and make another mark—as this is where your arch should be

3. Finally, we line up the outer corner of your nose with the outer corner of your eye to make the final mark—this is where your eyebrow should end. Now, we can carefully fill in from mark to mark with brow zings to create your new and improved brow.

I know it may look a little silly and believe me, when I first had my brows done at the Benefit Brow bar, it was definitely an unusual step to witness but definitely a crucial step to what will help you get am amazing set of brows. It also kinda gives you a look into the shape of your brows before they wax all the little nasties that have hidden these beautiful pair of brows away.

Getting my brows done with the expert!
On to the most exciting part of the post - I was so honoured to have the expert, Jared himself work his magic on my brows. It was the most pain-free experience ever!

The Video

Those girls who tell you that brow waxing hurts? Yeah, pfft.. they're clearly getting it done at the wrong place. I felt no pain whatsoever! I even took my best friend from Hong Kong to the benefit brow bar and she felt NOTHING, no pain whatsoever.

Also! A huge shoutout to our lovely friend Natasha for taking time out to come help us film on the day itself! *kisses*

Here is a before and after! Can you see how polished and clean my right brow looks? Jared turned my " Brow woe into a brow WOW!" ( yes, a signature yet very applicable quote from Benefit cosmetics) ;)

Volia! I know, self-praise isn't very the best form of flattery but I mean, How good do my brows look? It looks so polished and I really only have Benefit and Jared to thank for making my brows look so amazing. In the time that Jared was doing my brows, I got to know him a lot more and it was just an enjoyable experience having to get to know him and he was just super sweet to talk to! Jared if you're reading, Thank you so much and I hope to see you in town again soon! :)

Dinner with Jared bailey x Benefit Cosmetics

Benefit Cosmetics organized an amazing dinner at P.S Cafe  later that night where several other amazing bloggers got to together along with the Benefit team and Jared to get to know each other a little better and to exchange beauty pet peeves too! It was just an open ground to discuss anything and it was nice to have a more personal and cozy get-to-know each other session this way as oppose to a press conference kinda ordeal.

Of course, what's a proper post without showing you guys the amazing food that we had that night? I had the  Turkey cranberry sandwich (which was a huge portion I might add) along with truffle fries which was shared amongst those at the table! :)

Sorry if you're reading this a time where you're extremely vulnerable because I know I always happen to stumble along amazing food photos when I'm extremely hungry...

From left to right: Leanne (@loveforskincare), Jared, Me and Becks (@becksko)

We got to meet several bloggers that night and although I didn't get to grab a photograph with everyone. It was certainly nice to have gotten to meet such amazing people, the benefit team and just have a great evening with good food.

from left to right: Amy, margret & ace

Last but not least, I got to meet these brow experts from Benefit Cosmetics! These are three of the most amazing brow experts that you can find at TANGS, Vivo and ION respectively. Regardless, anyone you approach at the Benefit brow bars are always very friendly and provide nothing but the best service!

This might sound like a sales pitch here, but it isnt! I visit the benefit brow bars even before we teamed up with them for this collab and had nothing but a great experience. Not to mention I always walk out with incredible brows to frame my face right after too.

Thank you so much to Benefit Cosmetics for the amazing evening, I honestly had the best time and wish Sam was in town to enjoy the fun filled day with me too. Don't forget to enter the giveaway over on our youtube channel!  GIVEAWAY DETAILS can be found on our youtube video right here.

Good luck!
much love,

Review: 13Rushes

Hi lovelies,

How have you all been? Things have been insanely busy and hectic with both of us handling full time jobs but just know that we've not forgotten about our little beauty haven on the net.

This is a long overdue review but I'm sure you've heard us raving about these products over on our instagram page and incorporating this into our list of cult beauty favourites. So we thought we owe it to you to due a full blog review on these amazing (local) brushes for you!

First off, here's what make 13rushes so special -

Established in 2013 in Singapore, 13rushes aspires to bring cruelty-free alternatives to beauty lovers all over the world. We believe looking great doesn’t have to harm the animals. Contrary to popular belief, getting fur off the animals isn't as pain-free as a haircut.  Every year, millions of animals are trapped and strangled in the wild, electrocuted and skinned in fur farms. Beauty should never come at the expense of the animals, as such all our products are 100% free of animal parts. Hence we promise to NEVER experiment on animals. Fur is really not glamourous.

Plus! the brushes are also hand-crafted even after production to provide you with nothing but the highest quality of brushes that look absolutely perfect.

What makes the brushes special
The bristles are super soft, they're as high quality as can ever be AND (no joke) are comparable to your high-end brushes that you might find at your beauty counters at Robinsons Orchard. I'm even coming to the conclusion that these brushes are even better!

They don't tug on my skin, they don't shed, nor have their colour run upon washing. These brushes are incredibly versatile and will work well be it used with liquid, powder or cream.

These brushes not only come in a drawstring bag but they they're also protected by this plastic sleeve to keep the bristles intact. P.S: this also comes in incredibly handy when after washing your brushes to keep the brush in shape for the next use.

The lovely Yu Hui sent us 3 brushes each of our choice to review. A short disclaimer - even though these products were sent to us, the review its 100% true to how it really faired for us and not sugar coated in any other way.

Face brushes

Starting off with face brushes, 13rushes offers powder, kabuki's anything you'd like of the highest quality. We selected the Rounded Kabuki, Tapered Kabuki (upon Roseanne's recommendation) and the powder brush.

For those who question a girls need for more than 1 brush that does the same function, we'd simply question your need for many cutleries of the same sorts in the kitchen. The answer is simple, you'll use it for different products, or maybe because one particular brush is designated to a different colour of powder / blush! It's as simple as that ;)

First off, can we admire the beautiful colour schemes that have been worked into the overall aesthetics of the brushes?! They just look so pretty sitting on my vanity table and I just naturally gravitate towards them every morning.

Rounded Kabuki

The Rounded Kabuki is incredibly soft and dense its is perfect for packing on powder blush or blending away cream blush or for buffing in foundation!

Here's a close up of the bristles, we're not joking when we say its soft and dense, but not super dense to the point where it's tough or tugs on your skin. As the bristles are relatively packed together, rest assured that the product will be well-buffed into your skin whilst giving a very air-brushed look!

price: SG$ *TBA

Powder brush

This beautiful Powder Brush isn't too wide, nor are the bristles too sparse to the point where it dust off your makeup rather than set or apply. I owe several other powder brushes and I'm so glad that they're all in different shapes because they all serve various purposes!

This would fall into the medium size catergory within my collection and is perfect for picking up any setting powders or loose powders for a slightly more concentrated application as opposed to a brush where the bristles are relatively fanned out like the Real Techniques large powder brush.

Again, it's incredibly dense, this photo of the bristles take from the top view was taken after numerous washes and it holds its shape beautifully.

price: SG$ *TBA

Tapered Kabuki

I love, love, LOVE  this brush. I know some of you might worry that because the bristles are longer as compared to the Rounded Kabuki, the product that has been picked up might just dust right off. Well, here's where you're wrong!  The product is spread out and applied onto your cheeks beautifully and  gives you a very natural, air-brushed finish to make the application of your blush look effortless.

No doubt it also comes down to the application technique with the given tools/product and I just simply swirl / tap my brush into the product (depending on how pigmented it is) and dab it onto my cheeks!

A closeup of the bristles, it is a little more spaced out as compared to the other two brushes that we've purchased but there's nothing I don't love about it! I also hold no responsibility for you over blending your makeup upon purchasing this brush because it still remains super soft even after numerous washes.

price: SG$20

Eye brushes

What makeup brush haul would be complete without eye brushes? I can also never say no to a good neutral smokey eye, and the best way to achieve a polished look is with the right tools!

Don't get me wrong, I do own several eyeshadow brushes - from ecotools, sephora, etc but few make it to my holy grail list and the 13rushes line definitely lies within my favourites. I shan't bore you all by saying that these brushes are soft in the specific descriptions of the brushes that we've received but by telling you how I like to incorporate them into our daily routine.

Angled Mini

I love using this brush either the a basic all over the lid because the angle suits the shape of my lid, where the peak of the angle can reach my inner corners or for applying product within my crease to bring some warmth to my eyes. It's also great for picking up both powder and cream shadow.

price: SG$15

Broad All-over

Sam loves this brush and one thing that's great about this is that even though it's an eye brush, don't only restrict its capability to only putting on eyeshadow. Sam loves using this to apply her under eye concealer to give a flawless finish! Simply dabb the concealer onto your skin and use this brush to blend it evenly into your skin!

price: SG$15

Pencil

When a  make-up artist / top beauty blogger / good friend of yours loves a particular brush from a line, you know you have to get it! Roseanne talked about how amazing this brush was back in our february favourites video that we all did together and I've always had my eye out for a good pencil brush to run some eyeshadow on my waterline or to precisely add a darker shade to intensify my makeup look in my crease. And yes, even after several washes, the tip still stays pointy!

price: SG$15

Overall thoughts

Need I really say more? These brushes are ah-mayy-zing. (amazing) They're gorgeous to have on your vanity tables, beautiful to whip out to display when your travelling with a brunch of girlfriends on your getaway and insanely worth it for the quality of the brushes that you'll be receiving.

I promise you wont ever regret purchasing these brushes and even though we were sent these by the lovely Yu Hui, I would, without a doubt, purchase more from them. If investing in skincare tools and products are your thing, they've also got their cleansing brush line too! Which I might just try out because the bristles already look as fluffy as a cloud and I can imagine that it would feel like a dream against my skin.

If you do have any questions regarding the brushes, do drop them in the comments and I'll be more than happy to get back to you asap! Thank you so much 13rushes & Yu Hui for sending over these beautiful brushes, they are honestly heaven sent and I've been using them since we got them wayy back in February.

Do send some love and check them out here

Until next time,

Monthly: Sam's May Favorites

Hey babes,

I know, THIS IS SO SO SO SO LATE.

Ash and I have started full-time jobs now.. which means we are busy as heaven (I would like to assume there's more people there than hell hehe)! Though I can't say both our jobs feel heavenly 24/7, we do enjoy what we do.. but we also feel bad for neglecting this space.. We thought things would be better after school.. but apparently not! :(

Anyway, so these are my May Favorites, some of them pretty new because I just started using them but they've already WOW-ed me! I haven't started reviews on any of them yet because I got some of them mid-May and I want to test them out for a whole month before coming to any real conclusion! Now, without further ado, let's start!

LJH Cellabel M.C. Vital CC Cream

We were gifted this amazing CC Cream from HKC Plaza which sells a delightful array of Korean makeup and skincare about 2-3 weeks ago and I've been using it everyday! For those who know me, I don't like using any type of "foundation"; be it BB cream or CC Cream, liquid or 2 way cake, I dislike it all. I much prefer knowing that my skin can 'breathe' and not risk any chance of breaking out whatsoever.

With this CC Cream though, all my worries are essentially gone. I don't even have to worry about color - because we know some creams turn us all grey and ashy! This one goes from white and blends in with my skin tone perfectly, dries so so so quickly, and only requires an ever thin layer to make me look more fresh and awake all the time! All I need is a light layer of loose powder above and my skin stays hydrated the whole day at work too! The best part is that I've had NO BAD REACTION AT ALL! ZERO! This deserves a 5 Star Rating from me because it's totally changed my mind about base makeup forever! Here's to looking flawlessly natural!

P/S: Can I reiterate again how much I'm in love? MAD LOVE! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Okay, enough.

P/P/S: Will definitely be writing a more in-depth review so I can share this love all around!

Stockist: HKCPlaza.com
Price: SGD $36 for 45ml (50% off U.P. of $72 right now!)

Marc Jacobs' Shameless Bold Blush in Rebellious

I got this during the Sephora sale at 20% off and I've no regrets, clearly! It is such a beautiful berry color and the payoff is gorgeous! A light dab with a blush brush (using the one from Loveybelle) and it spreads magnificently across my cheek with the brightest happy glow!

I have many pink blushes but nothing quite so plummy like this one! I always thought purplish blushes would look a little out of place on me but not this one! Paired together with a nice berry lip, the whole look is complete and looks so sunshine-y! I would say a little goes a long way for this so don't pack it on too much!

I must mention though, that those who love bold colors will love this a lot more, naturally.. but if you're a fan of lighter and subtler tones, then you could just use your finger to control and use a lot less product.. either way the result will be fabulous!

Stockist: Sephora Ion
Price:  SGD $56

bSoul Redness-Sinergy Serum

Those following us on Instagram would know I'm on my 28-day bSoul Skincare Regime.. So far, it's been about....19 days.. and this serum has been a lifesaver to my acne-prone chin! Whilst most of the cystic acne issues/headless pimple issues are gone, I am still faced with the occasional whitehead that turns into pus, and later pops forming a red blotch.

This serum GETS RID of that redness ASAP! It soothes my skin like nothing else! Usually by the night (should I apply this in the morning), the redness of any pimple or scratch or what have you is lessened by 50%. By the next morning, I would say even about 80-90%! It's also made my skin WAY WAY less sensitive and a lot happier! I can see those with eczema or rosacea loving this!

A little pricey, but I promise I've had no serum perform this way for me, not even SKII.

Stockist: Meditrina.com.sg
Price: SGD $138 for 30ml

bSoul Hydra-comfort Face Cream

So far... HANDS down, HANDS down, my favorite moisturizer in the world at this point. Yes, as of 25 years of living... best moisturizer ever. Believe me, I've gone from all kinds of high end brands to organic brands to drugstore brands.. I've gone the whole 9 yards (is that the right phrase? hmmm) and this... this moisturizer is all I could ask for.

It not only moisturizes my skin in all kinds of weather and conditions (my work station has me placed literally in front of an aircon), but also works to make me feel SO SO comfortable. No matter how much moisturizer I put on.. it sinks in. Almost like those games where you test how much can a sponge absorb you know? Be it pea sized or 4 peas or 10.. it just SINKS into your skin IMMEDIATELY! Forget oiliness and waiting for moisturizers to absorb fully before putting on your makeup. GONE are those days!

Plus, using a tiny dollop of it on tiny pimples makes it work as an acne-cream!!! Isn't that crazy!!! WOW.

Stockist: Meditrina.com.sg
Price: SGD $110 for 50ml

Benefit Cosmetics' Posie Balm

Ash got this from the Benefit dinner event after she interviewed Jared Bailey, and she passed it to me! I am so lucky to have such an amazing best friend. :)

Anyway, Since she took Benebalm, I thought Posie would be the next best thing! Lollibalm was a little too cool for my taste, so I took something in between the warmth of Bene and the coolness of Lolli.. Posie! Tada! Whilst it doesn't give a strong color, it is very natural looking and makes my lips look so kissably fresh! The lip balm goes on so smoothly and smells so wonderfully of roses (a major yay factor in all of this!) And what's not to love about the packaging too, right!? Such a pretty pink with a simple yet beautiful design.

I feel great just taking this out with me and using it on the go because I can look pretty whilst using something pretty! Talk about double satisfaction!

Stockist: Any Benefit Cosmetics Counter (Tangs/ Sephora)
Price: SGD $29

Overall Thoughts

This May I've gotten literally some of the best skincare and makeup items I've ever had. Sometimes, it's so easy to be swamped by work (like now), that I forget to stop and thank God for all this goodness we've experienced ever since we started this blog! 4/5 items of this post were gifted/sponsored to us and yet we were lucky enough to have them work such miracles!

bSoul is one of them which I consider heaven-sent, because my skin has never been this well behaved in my life.. and I am actually going to be buying more and more products once it finishes out!

May has been good, so here's hoping June will be just as awesome! xx

Happy Tuesday All!

Sponsored Post: Airbrushing vs. Traditional Makeup

Hey Loves!

If you’ve been thinking about offering airbrushed makeup at your home salon, you’ll be happy to know that you can find a makeup airbrush kit at The Salon Outlet. These kits are perfect for doing any client’s makeup and there are countless reasons why airbrushed makeup is great for any salon and stands out above traditional makeup.

Even when done by a professional, traditional makeup can be splotchy. It can look uneven and frequently causes a problem because it doesn’t perfectly match the wearer’s neck or collarbone area. With airbrushing, none of this is a real problem. The airbrush tool can be manipulated to spray an incredibly fine mist or one that is slightly thicker so that you can get a very light, natural finish or one that is a little heaver. In short, with airbrushing, you can get any type of finish you like.

Airbrushing is also incredibly even. With traditional makeup, the amount varies by what’s on your brush or fingers at any one time, but with airbrush makeup, you get a steady stream, so every part of your face is covered completely evenly. You can also continue the makeup down the neck and onto the collar bone area, so the face and your natural skin tone will never look like they clash.

Airbrushing has become popular in recent years after a string of makeover reality TV shows and red carpet shows that talk about how celebrities prepare for major events. Today, lots of brides and girls attending their proms want an airbrushed look that’s perfect for pictures and that they don’t have to try to tackle themselves. Airbrushed makeup is almost a sure money maker for most salons because of the market that already exists and is just waiting for a place to try it out.
